The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a major awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, producing among the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
